Sheffield City Council will be hosting its first ever Iftar event this Ramadan at the home of Sheffield Wednesday for the first time.

Adeel Zahman, the Community Services Manager at Sheffield City Council has emphasised the core values at the heart of the Iftar event:

“The event is all about friendship and bringing communities together.

“It’s a brilliant opportunity to learn about different cultures and faiths.”

The event taking place on 19 March has been funded by Central Local Area Committee councillors.

It’s also being organised by officers in partnership with Sheffield Wednesday.

Support from the blue side of the Steel City

The likes of Sheffield Wednesday, its community programme and women’s team, Sheffield Wednesday Ladies have all been in support of the event in which they have been promoting it on social media.

“Sheffield Wednesday have been fantastic in showing support for this event.”

Hillsborough Stadium’s 1867 Lounge will host the evening meal, which is situated on the first floor of the South Stand.

The venue is able to hold 225 people.

Over 170 people have already confirmed their places at the historical event.

There is still being over a week until it takes place.

“We’ve had a fantastic response from the community.

“There’s also been plenty of parents willing to bring their children, which is brilliant that they are willing for them to learn about other faiths.”

What to expect at the event

The first of its kind event will include guest speakers.

There’ll also be a pitch-side tour and goodie bags for the kids.

“Faith leaders from all walks of life will come in as guest speakers.

“It is open to all faiths and none.

“The Iftar event is all about unity, which is the definition of ramadan.”

The dinner will cater to all, with halal and vegetarian food being served to the attendees from all faiths coming together.
