The Rock N Roll Circus has announced that it will be returning to Sheffield this year after revealing its line-up to the public earlier this week.

Sheffield’s own Richard Hawley was named as Thursday’s headliner and he will be joined by other acts such as The Devine Comedy and The Coral. Sheffield band Milburn will also headline on the Saturday.

Along with music acts, the festival also incorporates circus entertainment throughout the weekend. Much like a circus, the festival’s premise is to have a different venue each year.

However, Rock N Roll Circus Director Ali O’Reilly said in an exclusive interview with ShefNews: “The festival was welcomed so warmly by the people of Yorkshire that we couldn’t not come back.

“We want to celebrate the incredible musical heritage of the city and that is why we had Self Esteem headline last year. As well as just the headliners, we want to champion the brilliant talent that is coming through Yorkshire’s music scene and just recently we added 20+ artists to the line up across the weekend. So, it’s set to be a real celebration of the talent coming out of Sheffield and Yorkshire more broadly.”

The festival will be held at Don Valley Bowl next to Sheffield’s Utilita Arena for another year. When asked about a possible venue change, Ms O’Reilly said: “Don Valley Bowl is a brilliant location for us – we have our main Big Top plus multiple stages and our food & drinks village which all fit perfectly in the space. The natural steps on the bank also make it a great spot to soak up the sunshine!”

Last year, the Rock N Roll Circus joined events such as Glastonbury, Eurovision and the Ryder Cup at the Access All Areas awards show and won the prize for Best Launch Event/One to Watch, beating other competition including Project 30.

“Winning the One to Watch award at the Access All Areas music industry awards was a very proud moment for us. We want to continue to bring the best of music and circus to the fans. We are continuing to evolve and build on the event year on year- for example this year, we are adding an additional stage which means more music, plus lots more circus performers and a few more surprises up our sleeve,” said Ms O’Reilly.
