Joe Lee is supporting the Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity this year by running a marathon a month.
The funds from this challenge will help the hospital fund the new national centre for child health technology.
Joe Lee’s previous role at the Sheffield Children’s Hospital as an operating department practitioner allowed him to witness the benefits of the charity’s donations.
He was involved in the installation of the Intraoperative 3T MRI scanner, which within the first seven months, was used on over a thousand patients.
He said: “It produces really high definition images that are essential for performing any kind of brain tumour surgery or anything specific in the brain.
“It basically allows the surgeon to identify the issue, and locate the problem.”
Joe Lee is now a third of the way through his latest challenge, after completing the Manchester Marathon in April, where he also achieved a third of his target funds.
Prior to this challenge, and inspired by a lack of fundraising due to Covid, he began his first year-long fitness challenge for the charity.
The amount raised went towards the installation of the new helipad, which will help children who need emergency medical care.
