Two University of Sheffield students have started a clothes repair and tailoring business to help people during the cost of living crisis.
Fabienne Valancogne and Evie Watson launched @redkickertitchers on Instagram three months ago, and they have since gained over 300 followers.
The pair provide services including; tailoring, hole repair and button sewing at prices which they boast to be cheaper than anywhere else.
“We did look at standard tailoring prices and made ours about ⅔ of the price. It’s not expensive to maintain the business. We can afford to keep it quite cheap and that seems to have really pleased our customers.” said Miss Watson.
“We both really enjoy making, sewing and fitting clothes but we don’t have any qualifications apart from a GCSE in Textiles and that we fix our own clothes. It wouldn’t really make sense if we priced our services to match the industry standard.
With the cost of living crisis, everything is more expensive and it would make more sense if we market it cheaper”
As many struggle with the cost of living crisis, Miss Valancogne and Miss Watson aim to help those steer away from resorting to the high prices which fund “fast fashion” businesses.
