Hagglers Corner in Lowfield will be hosting a live music event to raise money and awareness on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
The event, called Sisters of Sound, will take place today and will run from 8.30pm to 3am. Proceeds from ticket sales will go towards Women’s Aid.
Sarah Ingolfsdottir, one of the owners of Hagglers Corner, said: “We put on a lot of DJs here at Hagglers. It’s the bread and butter of what we do and as a venue, we’re known for it. There were hardly any female DJs on the lineups [earlier] and I just noticed it more and more.
“So that’s when I started the event itself, to celebrate female DJs that I could see around me and wanted to bring together.”
An all-female lineup of DJs specialising in house, funk, disco and drum and bass has been curated to get people on their feet.
In partnership with Pink Lemonade, a non-profit roller skate disco pop-up based in Sheffield, the night will feature a ‘Skate Jam’ in one of the venue’s rooms called ‘The Attik’.
Unlike a traditional roller disco, the skate jam will see people show off their roller skate tricks and perform dance routines in coordination with the music playing at the time.
Sarah Wilson, one of the DJs playing on the night, said: “It’s my first time with Sisters of Sound at Hagglers, so it’s a privilege to be asked to play.
“My set is going to be just a real joyous disco and dance playlist, stuff that will make you smile and get out there and have a dance.”
Since its debut in November 2023, Sisters of Sound has become a regular event at the Lowfield venue, featuring female and non-binary artists at the forefront.
Beyond showcasing talent, the events have also made a meaningful impact, raising over £1,000 for Women’s Aid.
Talking about how proud she is of the initiative, Ms Ingolfsdottir said: “That’s all I wanted it to be about really, supporting women. So helping women through Women’s Aid and supporting women who want to DJ but don’t get the opportunity.”
She wants people to expect some ‘sparkly fun’ while they’re at Hagglers Corner.
