This CCTV footage released by South Yorkshire Police today reveals two teenagers laughing and fist-bumping as they walked away from the scene just moments before police arrived.

Ramaray Treasure, 18, of Tansley Street, and Leon Sykes, 19, of Victoria Street in Stocksbridge, were jailed for 12 years and 13 years and eight months respectively after attacking a man on West Street in the early hours of March 9, 2024.

Detective Constable Gareth Rees, who led the case, described the attack as a “random and horrendous” act of violence in a busy public area.

The two youths chased their victim and stabbed him multiple times, leaving him with serious injuries.

Treasure was seen attempting to dispose of one of the knives, and two weapons were later recovered by officers.

Detective Constable Gareth Rees praised the bravery of the passerby who intervened to help and emphasised the crucial role CCTV footage played in securing the convictions.

Despite initially denying attempted murder, both Treasure and Sykes changed their pleas to guilty in November 2024, having already admitted to possessing offensive weapons.

The victim, who survived the violent assault, has spoken about the lasting physical and emotional trauma caused by the attack, which has affected both his personal and professional life.
