Discovery Outdoors and the University of Sheffield’s landscape and architecture department are collaborating to help connect young people with the environment.

John Bray, co-founder of Discovery Outdoors said: “I really wanted to start this organisation that could support schools but also community groups and anyone from youth through to adults giving them an opportunity to connect with their local natural environments.”

In 2024 Discovery Outdoors first got in contact with the University after student Sam Penrose redeveloped Scraith Wood Community Garden in Shirecliffe.

The garden brought new life to the area, and the opening brought the two together.

Since, students from the University of Sheffield visit the Discovery Outdoors allotment patch in Dronfield to learn more about the environment and develop their skills.
