Students from the University of Sheffield raised £1,100 at the end of March through a gig they held at the Sydney and Matilda Warehouse in Sheffield City Centre, to raise money for the charity The Snowdrop Project

The Snowdrop Project is a Sheffield-based charity that supports victims of modern day slavery in the UK by providing services like counselling and house renovations.

The gig, ‘Comfortable Shoes’, was arranged by the president of the University’s Sapphic Society, Will, who said they were particularly proud to support the charity because “it’s a really good cause” and “they do a lot of work to support LGBTQ+ survivors as well”. They have suggested that this will not be the first gig organised through their society.

Five bands performed, including ‘Junk’, ‘Woodlouse For Now’, ‘Amy Roberts’, ‘Moon and the Panthers’ and ‘Prayer Room’, who were performing live for the first time.

The gig featured both covers, such as Lily Allen’s ‘Not Fair’, and some original songs.

Moon and the Panthers guitarist, Esther Martin, said, “We are really happy all of the tickets have sold out”.

The society says that one hundred percent of the money raised will go to the charity, including money from t-shirts and posters, which are still available to buy.
