Two men and a woman are in police custody following a firearms discharge in Sheffield.

This follows a call made last night (Thurs 3rd April) at 10:04pm to the police that a gun had been fired at Daniel Hill Street in the Hillfoot area of Sheffield.

It is reported that shots were fired outside an address on the street, and the windows of a vehicle were smashed. It is then believed that a vehicle fled the scene.

Upon armed officers’ arrival they found evidence consistent with a firearms discharge.

An unnamed resident said that there was initially lots of confusion.

He added: “A friend of mine rang me up and asked ‘what’s going on in your end?’… well I don’t know!”

A few hours later, at 3.11am today, the police were called to reports of a road traffic collision at Liberty Drive in the Stannington area of Sheffield.

It is understood that a motorbike and a silver Golf were involved in a collision and that shots were fired at a man.

It is believed that a number of other parked vehicles were damaged during the collision. Both vehicles have been recovered.

Police are currently treating the incidents as linked and a man, aged 37, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and a woman, aged 39, has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm in connection.

Chief Super Intendent Jamie Henderson said; “Gun and violent crime has no place in South Yorkshire, and we are committed to rooting out those who choose to cause harm to others and bring them to justice.”

The rider of the motorbike a 36-year-old man, was also arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and was taken to hospital with minor injuries. All three remain in police custody at this time.

During searches at the properties, officers located a firearm, and two dogs, one of which is believed to be an XL Bully. The firearm has been recovered and both dogs have been seized and remain in police kennels.

Scenes remain in place at Daniel Hill Street, and Rivelin Road at the junction with Rivelin Valley Road.

Sup Int Henderson said; “Officers will remain in the areas today carrying out their enquiries, and your local neighbourhood officers will be patrolling and are there to talk to about any concerns you may have.”
