A drug dealer has been jailed for four years after patrolling officers became suspicious of a strong smell coming from his vehicle.

Lewis Darcy, 26, of Carr View Avenue appeared in Sheffield Crown Court last Friday and pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply heroin, crack cocaine and cannabis, as well as driving without a license or insurance.

On 12 March, officers were patrolling the Hexthorpe area before being made aware of the smell emerging from Darcy’s vehicle.

They then searched his car and found three bags of cannabis, as well as wraps of Class A, with the officers recovering up to £2,100 worth of drugs .

Darcy was then arrested and searched under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Detective Constable Ellen Hoszowski, the officer in charge of the case, said:

“Darcy was carrying a significant quantity of drugs that were wrapped and prepared for onward supply but thanks to our officers and their quick-thinking, we were able to apprehend him and prevent him from selling these on.

“Drugs absolutely ruin lives and the supply of these illegal substances often feeds into organised crime groups who wreak havoc and misery on our local communities.

“We will continue working proactively to root out those committing these types of crimes and bring offenders to justice, while also removing these dangerous drugs from circulation.”

DC Hoszowski is also part of Doncaster’s Operation Fortify Team, which tackles organised crime, including the supply of illegal drugs.

All of the drugs seized at the crime scene have since been destroyed.
