Dementia Action Week 2025 runs from May 19 to 25, aiming to raise awareness and support for those affected by dementia across the UK.
In recognition of the awareness week, Kathy Marwick, organiser of Sheffield’s Dementia-Friendly Friendship Lunches, announced a new venue. This was celebrated on Thursday, May 22, at the new location, Ponti’s Italian Kitchen in Fox Valley.
These monthly lunches bring older adults together to enjoy a meal, entertainment, and companionship, helping to combat loneliness and social isolation.
The initiative is backed by local GPs and the NHS through social prescribing.
Mrs Marwick was inspired to act after recognising the isolation many elderly people face.
She said: “Overall, we’re making a difference to people’s lives.”
The event also featured live music from Barnsley musician Oliver Harris, which many of the guests enjoyed and had been looking forward to.
