Flowers of the Earth is a brand-new installation by artist Saroj Patel, part of Rotherham’s Women of the World Festival.

The art installation is suspended within the historic nave of Rotherham Minster, cascades of colour inject the space with joy and celebration.

The installation will run until May 29 2025. Inspired by the rich traditions of Hindu culture – where flowers symbolise positive energy, spirituality and new beginnings – this artwork is a tribute to the power of flowers as a universal language that transcends borders and communities.

Each flower in this installation is a tribute to the richness and diversity of the communities in Rotherham. Woven together, they create a tapestry that speaks to the interconnectedness of us all – symbolising how different traditions, identities and stories unite.

Shef news caught up with Rotherham Minster Connections Project Leader Christine Batchford to discuss the art installation.
