Weston Park’s £1.85m project to purchase and install an MRI machine is in its final stages, after it was announced that donations have reached a sum of £1.4m.
Chief executive Emma Clarke said: “The way our community has rallied together behind the appeal has been nothing short of inspiring.
“I’d like to personally thank everyone who has helped us to reach this fantastic £1.4m fundraising milestone – your generosity and kindness will save lives.
“The appeal’s fundraising goal of £1.85m is now in our sights and every pound raised takes us one step closer to bringing this revolutionary MRI simulator to South Yorkshire.”
They hope the tool will enable clinicians to deliver radiotherapy with far greater accuracy, reducing side effects and boosting survival rates.
Their growing demand for cancer services is set to be alleviated after this milestone has been accomplished in its fundraising quest.
The MRI simulator cancer scanning machine will be installed at Weston Park Cancer Centre.
This substantial sum has been raised by a collective effort of individuals, businesses, and organisations across the region.
Dr Kash Purohit, ‘See it. Treat it.’ Appeal Board chair said: “As a Retired Consultant Clinical Oncologist, I know just how much of an impact the MRI simulator will make on patients at Weston Park Cancer Centre.
“The scanner will allow oncologists to greatly enhance the accuracy of radiotherapy. Not only will this transform the treatment experience for patients, but it should improve outcomes across the board.
“We’re deeply grateful to everyone who has donated to the appeal so far, and we’re looking forward to the brilliant fundraising events on offer in 2026.”
The charity are collecting donations directly through the See it. Treat it. Appeal, as well as a host of fundraising events to take part in and support – including the iconic Master Cutler’s Challenge.
This is an annual event in which teams are given £50 and challenged to raise as much as they can through their entrepreneurial prowess.
This year, all funds raised will be going to the MRI simulator appeal.
