A brand new crafting group has launched in Sheffield and is hosting its first workshop next week.
Scrappy Crafts aims to provide a crafting space for like minded people to have a space to meet and enjoy an evening of being creative with no pressure.
The group has been launched by art friends Maud Dunster, 26, and Taylor Irvin, 30.
Scrappy Crafts will be providing all tools and materials, collected from charity shops, unwanted collections, Vinted, and various other sources where the materials would otherwise be thrown away.
Ms Dunster said: “Both of us are quite thrifty and environmentally conscious, so we wanted to challenge ourselves to just use second hand or recycled materials that people are giving away or that would end up in the bin. This way people don’t have to buy all these supplies and tools for one project, they can just use our communal ones and have fun making a project without ending up with loads of waste.”
Scrappy Crafts aims to be inclusive of all adults, with instructions printed out and illustrated by Ms Dunster and help offered by both Ms Dunster and Ms Irvin, and no expectation to talk and no rush or pressure on completing projects.
Ms Dunster said: “It’s just a nice excuse to meet likeminded people, who have the same values and interests, from all over Sheffield that you wouldn’t get the chance to meet otherwise. It’s going to be very chill and relaxed, you don’t even need to talk if you don’t want to, so if you feel shy or nervous just come along and you’ll see we’re friendly, and you’ll hopefully have a lovely time.”

The pair plan to run a workshop each month, with different crafts each time, and want to expand into a sliding scale of events by including low cost and free events alongside their usual workshops.
The first session will have people making suncatchers using repurposed CDs and DVDs, and will take place at Sheffield Plate on March 24th, running from 6:30-8:30 pm.
Participants will keep their projects, and will receive little bags of materials at the end to continue their crafts at home if they run out of time to do so during the workshop.
Scrappy Crafts has an Instagram, @scrappycraftssheff, where they post announcements of events.
Tickets for the opening workshop are £8, and are available here.
