A terrified Doncaster family have been subject to a series of attacks which have left them “mentally destroyed.”
The Thompson family’s “nightmare” began on 2 January this year, when the family dog PJ was mauled to death in his own back garden by another dog.
Since then, the family have suffered attacks on their car and home by masked intruders, although police say they are not linking the incidents.
Ellie, 19, and her family made attempts to rescue PJ, but he suffered broken legs, a ripped jaw, and multiple puncture wounds to its upper and lower body. Sadly, he had to be put to sleep due to the severity of his injuries.
South Yorkshire Police investigated the attack but said they found no reason to seize the other dog.
South Yorkshire Police Inspector Steve Usher said: “In this case, the owner of the dog was made aware that if their dog was to commit further fear or injury, it could be seized, and agreed to work with our officer, engaging in restorative justice, completing a Responsible Dog Ownership Course with the Blue Cross Charity, and putting measures in place to ensure the dog could not cause injury or fear.”
But Mrs Thompson, 47, said: “My daughter feels like a prisoner in her own home and cannot access any outside areas due to the fear of attack”,
She said her daughter Ellie, 19, of Cadeby Avenue, Conisborough, has suffered panic attacks since the event.
Mrs Thompson said that the dog had previously lunged at Ellie while she was taking the rubbish out in October, which was also reported to the police.
Mrs Thompson, 47, launched a campaign last month, called Justice for PJ.
Just days after, the family were visited by masked men who attempted to break into their cars. Her husband then chased them naked down the street. Police have confirmed they are not linking the incidents.

The following day, two men arrived at the Mrs Thompson’s house and began smashing up the cars and windows.
Mrs Thompson said: “This attack has although made us stronger and working more as a unit, it has mentally destroyed us. Lack of sleep, is a torture. Seeing your kids cry daily is a nightmare.”
South Yorkshire Police confirmed there is an investigation into the criminal damage towards a property on Ellershaw Lane and it has been filed pending further lines of enquiry becoming available.
