An independent Sheffield cinema has won National Lottery funding to launch a new three-year project titled ‘Festival Foundations & Film Futures’.

Showroom Cinema, located on Paternoster Row, is one of 23 beneficiaries of the British Film Institute (BFI) National Lottery Audience Projects Fund and has received a grant of £585,000.

The funding is set to be used to develop a new film festival in Sheffield later this year which will be dedicated to children and young adults.

Showroom Cinema has been open since 1995 and is one of the country’s leading independent cinemas, showcasing a wide variety of films and documentaries.

Nathan Makalena, the cinema’s creative coordinator, says that they are “delighted” with the announcement.
