The Working Class Film Festival made its debut in Sheffield’s Showroom Cinema this past weekend, and it’s been a wild success.
Elle Short, organiser of the event, managed to bring over 36 films made by working class producers to the big screen, both local and international stories.
Elle, said: “It started off really because of the news articles that have been published that the number of working class people working in the film and television industry had dropped to a decade low of 8%.”
This is compared to a vastly different 60% coming from middle class backgrounds.
Films on global conflicts were also shown, such as Palestine and Ukraine, and international viewers from as far as Canada attended the festival.
