Sheffield and Wuhan artists collaborated in an art exhibition called ‘Silent Language’, a cross-cultural research project exploring womanhood through jewellery.
The exhibition displayed the work of 19 Sheffield based artists and artwork created in workshops, where participants used objects collected from daily life to express their lived experiences.
‘Silent Language’ was co-initiated by four artists working between China and the UK, Maria Hanson, Xinru Dai, Yusi Wang, and Yuxiao Zhu, who wanted to bring together multiple voices and perspectives on what it means to be a woman today.
The program was funded by the ‘Connections Through Culture’ grant, awarded by the British Council in recognition of the cultural collaboration between China and the UK.
