The historical Sheffield Castle site is under transformation into Castle Hill Park
The archaeological ‘set piece excavation’ will conclude at the end of May. It will gradually be excavated deeper to the medieval castle’s gatehouse level which is a significant part of the works.
The team will reuse the existing concrete slabs that have been broken out as general fill on site.
The transformation will raise up the west side of the site (next to Waingate) to street footway level to form one of the park’s entrances, which will form part of the cut-fill exercise.
There are more to be done and the council said access between future development plots 1 and 2 will be provided towards the end of June when large pre-cast culvert units being installed.
