Artists and fans have displayed their outrage of Leadmill’s closure on social media, with Oasis’s Liam Gallagher labelling the decision as ‘scandalous.’

This comes after the venue announced they had lost their eviction notice served by their landlord.

Yesterday the Leadmill released an online statement asking fans online to tag artists they want to see to show off the best of their history.

The Leadmill said: “Following our devastating eviction news, we look to our final weeks to host some very special farewell events -and this is where we want to hear from you.

“Get tagging your favourite artists/comedians/creatives, let’s make these final weeks the best in 45 years. “

Upcoming Sheffield band, Junk, told ShefNews that The Leadmill closure will be devastating for the Sheffield music scene.

Lead singer and bassist Evelyn Wilson said: “It’s one of those things I think that everyone thought they would win. It’s just really incomprehensible that they would shut down.

“There is such a strong scene in Sheffield and everyone is trying to lift each other up and give each other other opportunities.”

The band have played at popular Sheffield venues, Sidney & Matilda, The Washington and most recently the Foundry.

They were in contact with Leadmill organisers to play before the closure announcement.

When asked about the new venue that will replace The Leadmill, they said: “It was such a successful thing lost over landlord greed so hopefully everyone who works there can channel their passion into smaller venues and give everyone else a lift.”

“Everyone is a bit scared, and all of the smaller venues are probably shaking in their boots because the Leadmill is the heart of Sheffield.”

Since 1980, the iconic Sheffield venue has hosted icons such as Oasis, Pulp and the Arctic Monkeys.

On X Liam Gallagher labelled the decision to close the venue as ‘scandalous.’

The venue said: “We have served as a community space for art, theatre, comedy and grassroots activism.

“This is a heartbreaking moment not just for our team but for the entire Sheffield community.”
