An upcoming community day will kick off a new partnership raising money for local hospitals, as Sheffield College names Sheffield Hospitals Charity as it’s charity of the year.
It will see college students making marmalade, boxing and scaling the Yorkshire Three Peaks.
Students and college staff will work in collaboration to support fundraising activities and events over 2026.
The charity aims to fund improvements for patients, families and staff across Sheffield’s health services to ensure that there are improvements in life and care for these individuals.
Angela Foulkes who is the spokesperson for Sheffield college said: “ The partnership will be put in practice as we encourage students to get involved in activities that support organisations outside of the college.
“These activities should positively impact a range of diverse local communities.”
Students from across the college will develop new skills allowing them to strengthen their CVs with real world experience.
Health and social care students already have fundraising events planned which include easter egg hunts and a sponsored walk.
Partnerships are integral to the college’s strategic plan between 2025 – 2030.
As part of its plan the college has vowed to empower their students and staff whilst supporting the community ensuring their initiatives create real change which fosters social cohesion and inclusivity.
Foulkes said: “ Success is clear when students start to organise their own projects which develop their skills and which also fundraise for charity at the same time.”
On Saturday May 9, the college will be fundraising for Sheffield Hospitals on its community open day.
Catering and hospitality students have made 150 jars of marmalade to sell, whilst motor vehicle students are organising a boxing and circuit event. Fitness and life science students are taking a hike as they are planning on scaling Yorkshire Three Peaks.
She added: “ Our long term vision is to expand on the multiple partnerships we have across the city whilst supporting the good work of Sheffield children’s hospital and its priorities.”
The official launch of the partnership was on March 4, alongside the national campaign which champions positive impact on colleges and the wider community.
