The art festival Open Up Sheffield has hosted almost 100 artists so far this year, continuing its reputation as one of the most respected creative events in the city.

Over the last month, Open Up Sheffield encouraged visitors to explore art spaces and observe local artists.

Many artists have been participating in the event since 1998 and view it as a vital space to promote their work to the local community.

Mandy Nesbitt makes intricate jewellery and is based in the city centre. She said: “I think it’s quite interesting to know how things are made. You can go and mooch around other people’s space and see what they do. I think it’s fascinating.”

Shefnews talked to talented creators at their studios before the festival began and asked why it is so important for them.
