A Sheffield charity, the St Vincent’s project, has asked for help from the public to supply more reusable furniture.

Established in 1987, the charity has helped those who are disadvantaged in the community by redistributing recycled furniture and household items.

Joe Mirfin, charity volunteer, said: “Obviously if you’re moving into an empty property, the most important thing is comfort and we try to make it as easy as possible.”

St Vincent’s have been relying on donations to supply their furniture, however, the charity has asked for more support to help their cause.

The charity has found that most people require beds, sofas and chairs for their homes.

Mr Mirfin said: “We need more clean beds and mattresses that are stain free and small two seater sofas that are smoke and pet free.

“The people we help may not have much but they do have dignity.”

This year they have managed to help 2,915 people, with 64% of those being from financial hardship and over 1,465 being children.

The charity has also managed to recycle 95 tonnes of furniture, having had 1,552 donations so far.
