Weston Park May Fayre is set to return to the city on the 17 May, providing many fun attractions for families and friends.

The event is a partnership between the University of Sheffield and Sheffield City Council, and will be free of charge – with many popular acts returning to one of Sheffield’s favourite green-spaces.

These acts include: The Old Fairground Carousel, Granny Turismo, the Helter-Skelter, Theo the Bear and his friends the Stormtroopers, Elton Wong, and more.

Morris Dancers will also join this year’s line of acts, a new addition to the line up, promising a refreshing experience of entertainment for those attending.

Pip Strafford, Marketing and Communications Manager at the University of Sheffield, said: “It’s part of our commitment to cultural vibrancy in the city, and it’s a love letter back to the city. It’s about giving back to the region and giving back to the people of Sheffield.

“The University is very passionate about culture in the city. So, both Sheffield City Council and the University are working together to really deliver.”

Thousands are expected to flock to Weston Park, thanks to the major cultural appeal of the day.

Regarding the event’s popularity, Mr Strafford said: “It’s so popular because it’s just one of those things that’s been going for so long. It’s almost like the tramlines in terms of its notoriety and it’s viewed as a real point in the cultural calendar of Sheffield.

“It’s always in people’s diaries. They know what to expect. So it’s great if you need something to do with the kids, or you just want to come and hang out in the park, have a picnic and watch the acts.”

Weston Park May Fayre has been held for 20 years, with many working to bring the event to life each year.

Mr Strafford said: “There’s a lot of management, as you can imagine. There’s lots of risk assessments. We have to really work with the council.

“And there’s lots of teams involved both from our side and the council side. But that’s why it’s a really fantastic collaboration between us and the council. So you know we really share the workload.”

Weston Park May Fayre will also be supported by Sheffield Children’s Hospital charity.

Events will run from 11am to 5pm.
