Andy Nyman and League of Gentlemen’s Jeremy Dyson’s acclaimed horror show is stopping off at Sheffield on its first full UK tour.

The play is known for its unusual advertising, which includes no production photographs and publicized warnings that people under the age of 15 shouldn’t attend.

Time Out magazine have called the play a “harrowing, 80-minute nightmare thrill”, and is described by the Sunday Times as “genuinely scary fun.”

The play is 80 minutes, with no interval in an experience that includes low frequency sounds and unusual smells of ‘tobacco smoke and bleach’ to immerse audiences into the story.

An announcement at the end of the performance asks the audience to “keep the secrets of Ghost Stories” so that new audiences do not have the experience spoiled with any prior information about the play.

The performance is part of a UK tour including dates in Birmingham, Belfast and Cardiff.

Andy Thawley on X said: “Saw Ghost Stories tonight in Sheffield, I would highly recommend it. We enjoyed it so much that we’ve just booked tickets for next year to see Andy Nyman’s and Jeremy Dyson’s new play, The Psychic.”

The play was given a film adaptation in 2017, featuring Martin Freeman, Paul Whitehouse  and Dyson himself, which has reached cult status with many UK horror fans.

The show previously ran at the Lyceum in 2017, becoming popular with audiences and selling all the dates of their residency.

“Ghost Stories” is running at the Lyceum from the 11th to the 15th of February.
