Beloved pizza restaurant, Forbici, held its grand opening in Sheffield City Centre today, marking the occasion by giving away one thousand free pizzas.

Queues of people lined the streets, with some people waiting for over 50 minutes in Millennium Square to get their hands on a box of Forbici Pizza.

A queuer said: “Excited is an understatement… we saw it on Instagram last night and thought that this was our activity.”

The Sheffield restaurant will be the second Forbici restaurant in the UK, after the Manchester branch opened last year.

For the grand opening, Forbici collaberated with Henderson’s relish to create a Sheffield signature Neapolitan pizza.

Ruby, a Henderson’s Relish ambassador, said: “It has been super busy, they had a super good turnout… We thought we would collab and give everyone a taste of the relish.”

Forbici’s signature dishes include classics like the marina, and margherita but also more unique Italian dishes like the Provola e Pepe.

Forbici itself means “scissors” in Italian and symbolises the way that Forbici uses scissors to cut its pizza’s four ways.

The restaurant takes pride in its dough which is made fresh every morning and has gained praise from celebrities and famous chefs including Marco Pierre White, who called the pizzas at the Manchester restaurant “deliciously good”.

The free event took place from midday until two in the afternoon, but bookings are now open as usual.
