Friends of Whirlow Brook Park is an organisation that strives to care for the park in the South-West of Sheffield.

The group organises events around the year to raise money to put back into the park and protect the wildlife and environment.

Watch the groups’ most recent event, a plant sale and swap that all raised money to go towards the restoration of the community orchard that’s currently a bramble patch.

The organisation could be seen selling different types of plants and had a tool sharpening section for people to come along and get their gardening equipment back into shape.

Nicola Gilbert, group volunteer, says: “Friend groups are amazing because all the voluntary effort people put in is rewarded.”

It’s not the first fundraising project the group have made, back in 2022 they raised money for bat boxes and in 2023 £740 was raised for the ‘Blue family trail’ set to be launched on 28th July.

There are many different events coming up like volunteer work on the park gardens next Monday and the ‘Sounds of Summer Concert’ taking place on 26th May.

Anyone wanting to join the group in their caring of the park can register here and donations for the orchard clean up can be made through here.
